Spin City Show
Spin City Show
We were asked to cover the Spin City Show, a pole dance event. The coverage was also intended to promote future editions of this recurring event. The Spin City Show is a unique event that promotes the art of pole dance beyond its typical venues of competitions and professional pole dance schools. The performers at the show include instructors, medalists, school owners, and professional performers who dignify the mission of popularizing this demanding sport and artistic discipline. Previous editions of this event also had a charitable aspect.
The event took place at the Miasto Bar cocktail lounge, making it an unusual venue for such a spectacle. We had limited space for recording. The event was live, with an audience in attendance. We didn't have the opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the diverse artistic program of the performers beforehand. There were 15 individual performances, each presented only once, with no possibility of repeats.
Working with a camera on a gimbal proved to be the perfect solution. It provided us with great flexibility in capturing the footage—we didn't disrupt the performances and had complete freedom in filming. We recorded the material in a single take, filming one performance after another. We utilized the limited space to maintain a more intimate, almost documentary-style approach to the shots. We embraced spontaneous shots that arose from the unpredictability of the performances. We captured moments as they unfolded.
During the editing process, we faced a challenging task. The footage we gathered was quite extensive. We wanted to showcase all the performers in all their acts. The program was highly diverse, with each performance carrying a different atmosphere and music. We came up with the idea of independently remixing a selected track and editing the footage to it. From each performance, we chose only those moments that we felt best captured the spirit of pole dance and the Spin City Show event. Every single performance was featured in our film. We arranged the shots in a way that the dynamics of the performances gradually increased. We opted for dynamic editing and varied frames throughout the theme of the selected track. In the film, we showcased two longer segments from two performances and treated them as "choruses." These music segments were mixed by us. Thanks to this approach, the film doesn't seem dull; the shots change smoothly along with the music. We can see the full range of performances, and the viewer feels like a private participant in the show. Our film is not just a report on the event. It's also a narrative about a specific, beautiful, and incredibly challenging discipline. And about femininity.
The organizers and artists appreciated our film, stating that the result exceeded their expectations. The film was featured on social media channels, as well as on YouTube and Vimeo, serving as a report on the event. It promoted upcoming editions and was screened during their duration. Additionally, we prepared a series of films featuring full performances for the artists, which we matched with original music. These materials were shared on the performers' private social media channels. We are very pleased with the outcome and the reception of our film by the pole dance community. It was a fascinating task!
If you're unsure whether your event is suitable for filming, if you're not convinced whether you have enough space, and if the film crew won't disrupt the event, this film is a perfect example of why it's worth taking the risk. Our experience allows us to quickly and accurately assess situations, and our efficiency in capturing footage makes us "ghosts" on the set. We encourage you to trust us, regardless of the type of event you have planned. The energy created during events is precious, and such moments are always worth remembering.
